Fontainebleau Associations Benefit

October 21, 2007

Jennifer Jahn, Benefit Chair

The Annual Fontainebleau fundraiser, “Music From the Chateau”, took place on Sunday, October 21, 2007 in New York City. The gala benefit evening included a chamber music concert, a raffle, a champagne and dinner reception and a live auction. It was a stunning and extremely successful event, planned by Jennifer Jahn.

Guests arrived at the Yamaha Piano Salon in midtown for the 5pm concert. They were greeted by opening remarks given by Jennifer Jahn, Therese Cassadessus Rawson and, our celebrity host, Charles Osgood, of CBS Sunday Morning. A short film by Joe Kerr was then projected, which gave guests a priceless glimpse of the history, distant and present, of the Fontainebleau Schools. Then the music began. All of the performers this year were members of the Class of 2007. They included Peter Liu, Clara Lyon, Elizabeth Lyon, Hannah Sun, Caleb Van der Swaag and Jason Wirth. We are grateful for the time, energy and artistry they donated to this most important event. We were thrilled to hear their beautiful performances.

Raffle winners were drawn during intermission and after the concert those with patron tickets went outside and boarded buses headed for the private reception. For the second year in a row, we were invited to Charles Osgood and Jean Wood’s beautiful apartment, just across the street from Carnegie Hall. The guests and musicians had the chance to visit, drink champagne and visit the buffet before the live auction began.

Piers Davies, of Christie’s auction house, served most capably as our auctioneer once again. Guests and board members were enthusiastic and generous with their bids for highly sought-after items including week-long stays in apartments and houses in Florida, Paris and the south of France, tickets to the Metropolitan Opera, a home concert given by Philippe Bianconi and more.

It was a charming evening and an incredible success. We raised $60,000 for the scholarship fund. Jennifer Jahn worked tirelessly to obtain the donated auction items and to coordinate the performers, the concert venue and reception. Special thanks to this year's benefit committee volunteers: Therese Casadesus-Rawson, Christine Zucker, David Sok, Ashley Pensinger-Sok, Dr. Anthony Jahn, Joe Kerr, Armand Pohan, Jean Wood, Sylvia Golden, Catherine Delloye, Sandra Schipior and Dr. Paul Schipior. Bravo!
